Birch Perfume Oil

Sharp, smoky, and distinctly medicinal — birch tar has a cold, almost phenolic edge that sets it apart from other woody or smoky notes. It carries the characteristic smell of tanned leather and woodsmoke with a dry, slightly bitter finish, and none of the warmth or sweetness found in softer base notes. Used neat it is striking and polarising; in a blend it adds a raw, rugged smokiness that few other materials can replicate.

Works well in:

• Body and perfume oils — highly effective as an accent note in leather, tobacco, or smoky masculine blends
• Soy and paraffin candles — strong character at low usage rates; suited to campfire, woodland, or industrial-themed ranges
• Reed diffusers — use sparingly; even at low concentration it reads clearly in a space
• Bukhoor and incense blends — adds a cold, tarry smokiness that contrasts well against warm resins
